Description

Enjoy a great ecological adventure in the Dominican Republic along the Northern and the Northeastern coastline. Visit the Los Haitises National Park, one of the country’s most important protected natural landscapes, home to impressively rich fauna and exuberant flora. Begin your journey early in the morning on a bus from Bayahibe/Punta Cana. Head to Miches for a breakfast stop and then to Sabana de la Mar. Once there, get on a boat which will take you along the Caño Hondo River all through the Los Haitises National Park. Admire the impressive karst landscape that boasts extensive mangroves, home to over a hundred different bird species, as well as the famous mogotes – 30-meter (98-foot) high rock formations peaking out of the water. Visit 2 caverns, which have petroglyphs and pictographs on their rock walls – prehistoric paintings, an invaluable legacy of the ancient Taino civilization. After the tour of the park, go back to the pier and head to Paraíso Caño Hondo, an ecolodge surrounded by jungle within the Los Haitises National Park. Be offered a delicious Dominican lunch as well as an opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the local natural pools. Afterward, get back on the bus and head to Montaña Redonda, where a safari truck will take you to its very top. Montaña Redonda is located in-between two large lagoons (Laguna Limón and Laguna Redonda) and offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views in the Dominican Republic – the Atlantic ocean to its East and the Eastern Cordillera to its West. Afterward, go back to the bus and return to Bayahibe.
